What is breast reduction?
Breast reduction is a surgical procedure that removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to reduce the size and weight of the breasts. In addition to decreasing volume, the nipple and areola are repositioned to a more youthful and natural height, and the diameter of enlarged areolas is often reduced.
This procedure is ideal for women who experience physical or emotional discomfort due to overly large breasts. Common symptoms include chronic pain in the neck, back, or shoulders; skin irritation under the breasts; difficulty exercising or wearing supportive clothing; posture issues; shoulder grooving from bra straps; and low self-esteem related to body image. In patients with a high fat content in the breasts—particularly women over 45—breast liposuction can be used to sculpt and lighten the overall contour, especially in the lateral chest area, achieving a more refined and proportionate shape.
The surgery lasts approximately 2 to 3 hours, is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, and may require an overnight hospital stay depending on the case. Initial recovery takes about 10 to 14 days, with final results typically visible within 3 months.
- Requirements: Complete blood count, coagulation times, blood chemistry. Cardiac evaluation is required for patients over 50.
- Postoperative care: A compression bra must be worn for 4 weeks. Strenuous physical activity should be avoided during the first month, and scars should be protected from sun exposure to promote optimal healing.

Will I lose nipple sensitivity or the ability to breastfeed?
