What is Liposuction?
Liposuction, also known as body sculpting or lipocontouring, is a surgical technique designed to remove localized fat deposits that don’t respond to diet or exercise. Unlike weight-loss surgery, liposuction is not intended to reduce body mass, but rather to reshape and refine areas where fat accumulation distorts the body’s natural silhouette.
Dr. César López performs liposuction using thin cannulas inserted through small, strategically placed incisions. These cannulas break down and remove fat while preserving blood vessels, connective tissue, and nerves. Depending on the patient's needs, he may use traditional suction techniques, power-assisted liposuction, or ultrasound-assisted liposuction.
Liposuction is especially effective in treating areas such as the abdomen, waist, lower back, arms, bra line, inner and outer thighs, hips, flanks, chin, and neck. It is also used in the male chest as part of gynecomastia surgery.
The procedure lasts approximately 2.5 hours, is performed under local anesthesia with sedation, and typically requires an overnight hospital stay. Initial recovery takes about 10 days, and final results are generally visible after 3 months.
- Requirements: Complete blood count, coagulation times, blood chemistry. Cardiac evaluation is required for patients over 50.
- Postoperative care: A compression garment must be worn for 6 to 8 weeks. Light walking is encouraged from day one. Strenuous activities should be avoided during the first month. Post-surgical ultrasound therapy is also recommended to support recovery.
Adequate skin elasticity to allow for gentle retraction after removal of fat
Good skin tone is essential for optimal results. After removing the fat, the skin must contract naturally to adapt to the new contours.
There are no untreated medical conditions that impair healing
Candidates must be in stable health and free from uncontrolled conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, or bleeding disorders.
Realistic Expectations for What Liposuction Can and Can't Achieve
Ideal candidates for liposuction understand that the procedure targets localized fat deposits resistant to diet and exercise, and that their overall shape will improve, but will not dramatically change their weight or replace healthy habits.
Patients with stretch marks
Or, skin laxity in the treatment area may be more beneficial if: skin excision procedures, such as a tummy tuck or arm lift, which Dr. López can discuss during the consultation
Benefits of Liposuction
Undergoing plastic surgery with Dr. César López means more than simply refining a feature: it's about restoring balance, regaining confidence, and achieving results that feel as good as they look. Each procedure is designed not only to improve specific areas of the face or body, but also to improve overall harmony, comfort and well-being.
Defined and proportionate body contours
Liposuction improves body shape by removing pockets of fat that create imbalance or heaviness. The result is a more elegant and refined silhouette, especially when combined with the artistic approach that Dr. López is known for.
Health-related improvements
Even moderate fat removal can help reduce cardiovascular risk, improve insulin sensitivity and alleviate physical symptoms related to excess fat, such as low back pain or discomfort caused by heavy breasts.
Minimal scarring and downtime
Thanks to the use of small cannulas and the well-planned placement of the incisions, the scars are practically invisible. Recovery is relatively quick, and most patients return to work and their daily routines within a week.
Psychological and Emotional Benefits
Many patients report feeling more confident and in control of their appearance. The ability to wear tight clothing, swimwear, or simply look in the mirror without frustration is a powerful motivator.
The process and recovery
Both surgical and recovery processes follow a safe line, personally guided by Dr. López.
01
Personalized planning
Liposuction begins with an in-depth consultation in which Dr. López evaluates the abdominal wall, fat distribution and skin behavior.

02
Surgical procedure
Dr. López makes small incisions near target areas, usually hidden in natural folds or along clothing lines. A cannula is inserted through these incisions to gently separate and suck out the fat, layer by layer
03
Early recovery
In the first few days, you may experience swelling, bruising, and mild discomfort, all controllable with prescription medications.

04
Follow-up care
Dr. Lopez will provide detailed instructions on aftercare and will closely monitor your recovery. You will be advised to rest, avoid strenuous activities, and keep the compression garment on as instructed.
05
Final results
The final results are usually consolidated between 3 and 6 months, once the skin has completely retracted and the tissue has settled in place.

Do you have any questions?
We're here to help. Send us your questions and our team will answer clearly and carefully. Your comfort, safety and peace of mind are important to us.
Is liposuction a weight-loss procedure?
No. Liposuction is not designed for weight loss. It's a contouring procedure that targets specific fat deposits that don't respond to diet or exercise.
How much fat can be removed?
Up to 10 pounds (approximately 4.5 kg) can be safely removed in a single session, depending on your BMI, health status and treatment areas. The goal is shape, not mass reduction.
What's the difference between liposuction and laser lipo?
Laser liposuction uses energy to liquefy fat and tighten skin, making it ideal for small or delicate areas. Traditional liposuction is more mechanical and suitable for larger volumes.
Can I combine liposuction with other procedures?
Yes. Many patients combine it with a tummy tuck or breast surgery. Dr. López will design a comprehensive plan if needed.
