What is male thoracic surgery?
Male Thoracic Surgery refers to a group of procedures designed to flatten and masculinize the breast. Dr. López specializes in two techniques:
- Gynecomastia surgery addresses the enlargement of male breast tissue, usually caused by a hormonal imbalance or by residual fat that does not respond to weight loss. The procedure removes excess glandular tissue and fat to restore a flat, athletic chest.
- Double mastectomy (subcutaneous mastectomy) is usually performed on transgender men or cis men with more developed breast tissue. The goal is to create a soft, symmetrical and masculine chest contour and, at the same time, to preserve the areola and nipple when possible.
In both cases, the result is a torso that reflects male proportions and eliminates the psychological and physical discomfort caused by excess breast tissue.
You can be a good candidate if
- You are in good general health and have a stable weight
- You don't smoke or are willing to stop smoking during recovery
- You have realistic expectations
- You experience physical or emotional discomfort due to excess breast tissue
- You have a firm and elastic skin that can adapt to the new contour
This surgery is not recommended for
- Those with uncontrolled health problems that may affect healing
- Patients who have not tried weight loss or hormonal correction first (in the case of mild gynecomastia)
Types of Male Thoracic Surgery: Gynecomastia and Mastectomy
Gynecomastia surgery
It is usually done in men who experience a mild to moderate chest fullness due to excess glandular tissue or fat. This procedure removes excess tissue while preserving the nipple and minimizing scarring, which is usually limited to the areolar edge or crease of the armpit.
Double mastectomy
Intended for cis or transgender men with more prominent glandular development or large breasts. Surgery removes all of the mammary gland tissue, and while it is often possible to preserve the nipple, it may be necessary to reposition it or make minor revisions.
The process and recovery
Both surgical and recovery processes follow a safe line, personally guided by Dr. López.
01
Personalized planning
Every trip begins with an enquiry. Dr. López reviews your goals and your anatomy to design a plan that fits you.

02
Surgical procedure
Performed under general anesthesia in a certified hospital. The approach depends on the technique you choose: gynecomastia or mastectomy.
03
Early recovery
After surgery, compression garments or binders are placed to control swelling and help the skin adhere to the new shape of the breast.

04
Follow-up care
Dr. López personally monitors each follow-up, ensuring that scars heal properly, that contours are symmetrically adjusted and that any need for refinement is precisely addressed.
05
Final results
Most patients return to desk work and social activities within 10 to 14 days, although strenuous exercise should be avoided for 4 to 6 weeks. At the end of the first month, the breast takes on a visibly flatter and firmer appearance.

Do you have any questions?
We're here to help. Send us your questions and our team will answer clearly and carefully. Your comfort, safety and peace of mind are important to us.
Will the results look natural?
Absolutely. Dr. López's goal is not just to be flat, but to achieve a proportionate, firm, masculine-looking chest that integrates with the overall structure of the torso.
Are the scars visible?
The incisions are strategically placed along natural edges, such as the areola or chest crease, and usually disappear over time with proper care.
Do I need to lose weight before surgery?
While not required, achieving a stable and healthy weight improves results and reduces the chance of needing skin removal or revision.
Will the chest remain flat over time?
Yes, Once removed, glandular tissue does not return. Maintaining a stable weight and hormone levels ensures that the result stays consistent.
